Heather Sutherland has played an integral role for over 30 years at Dalhousie University. As the Assistant Vice-President of Ancillary Services, Heather has brought an innovate approach to a diverse range of value-added services her department provides students, faculty and the community at large.
Dalhousie’s Ancillary Services department includes things like residence operations, the Dalhousie Bookstore, UPass, on-campus dining and food retail, along with other services geared to support students and enhance their university experience. Heather leads the team with a dynamic energy, and she’s dedicated to evolving these services so they can continue to meet the ever-evolving community needs.

Her most fulfilling part of the day is working closely with her group and achieving both long-term and short-term goals for the university and students. Through her time with Dalhousie, Heather has seen how important community engagement is, both from the perspective as an employer and as a Nova Scotia resident.
Over Heather’s career, she’s helped thousands of students achieve academic success. She reminds us that often there is not just one right path and that it’s paramount to be flexible and adapt to circumstances. She’s proud of the nimbleness her team brought over the last few years, and how they worked to adapt to the changing needs of the university community.
Heather’s career is admirable, and her leadership has brought success to both Dalhousie, the Halifax community, and beyond.
