Mifflin’s Tea Room
Being at Mifflin’s Tea Room is a lot like the cozy feeling of returning home, and for Dene and his wife Liz, that’s exactly what this was. Mifflin’s Tea Room opened in 2010 in Bonavista Newfoundland, inside Liz’s childhood home.
Bonavista is a bustling and tight-knit community, and Mifflin’s Tea Room has been a staple there for 12 years. The amazing Gramma’s special seafood chowder and incredible customer service is what makes Mifflin’s Tea Room feel like a second home to many in the rural community.
What started as a place for high tea and crustless sandwiches, has evolved to being open all day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And while you may not find them online, word-of-mouth has been a key contributor to Mifflin’s Tea Room’s success! One of their biggest challenges to date has been not having enough space for everyone to sit and enjoy their local menu.
Dene and Liz say that a highlight of running a business in rural Newfoundland is the community spirit. There’s a sense of family, everyone is helping everyone and there is an overwhelming sense of belonging.
As a way to give back to the community, the tearoom holds an event each year to raise money for the community trust fund. The fund is used to help those who may need it – whether for school supplies, gas or groceries.
Mifflins’s Tea Room success comes from local love, support and their amazing seafood chowder.
